When is my MCS-150 due?
Your MCS-150 is due every two years by the end of a month set by your USDOT number. The last digit sets the month (1 = January … 9 = September, 0 = October) and the next-to-last digit sets the year: odd digit = odd-numbered years, even digit = even-numbered years.
The rule
Federal rules (49 CFR 390.19) require every motor carrier with a USDOT number to update its MCS-150 every 24 months, even if nothing changed.
The month comes from the last digit of the USDOT number: 1 is January, 2 is February, and so on through 9 for September, with 0 meaning October.
The year comes from the next-to-last digit. If it's odd, you file in odd-numbered years (2027, 2029). If it's even, you file in even-numbered years (2026, 2028). A one-digit USDOT number counts the missing digit as 0, which is even.
Example
USDOT 1234567: the last digit is 7, so the month is July. The next-to-last digit is 6 (even), so it's due in even years: by July 31, 2026, then July 31, 2028.
How to file
File the update directly with FMCSA. It's free. Be careful of companies that send official-looking letters or emails charging to file it for you.
If you miss it, FMCSA can deactivate your USDOT number and you may face civil penalties.

Questions
Do I have to file the MCS-150 if nothing changed?
Yes. The biennial update is required every 24 months even if your information is the same.
Does it cost money to file the MCS-150?
No. Filing the MCS-150 update with FMCSA is free. Third-party services that charge are optional.
What if my USDOT number ends in 0?
A last digit of 0 means your update is due in October. The next-to-last digit still decides odd or even years.
Can I file early?
You can update your registration at any time. The biennial rule sets the latest date you must file by.
